Division of Parks & Recreation director Eli Cabrera joined Paseo de Marianas Promoters’ monthly volunteer cleanup last Saturday, Aug. 13.
PDM Promoters coordinator Sonia Siwa said the cleanup of Paseo de Marianas is in preparation for the 2nd Annual International Festival of Cultures which would be starting all Saturdays from Aug. 20 to Sept. 24.
A total of 30 volunteers took part in the cleanup, among them 22 members of the Saipan Awaodori Team and eight Kinpachi Restaurant staff.
The cleanup was done at Paseo de Marianas and covered nearby alleys, namely Coral Tree Avenue, American Memorial Park Road, Beach Road, and Winchells Road.
The cleanup group cut and trimmed plants while collecting trash along the roads from 9am to about 12pm. Altogether, the trash collected weighed 700 lbs.
The cleanup group would be cleaning every first or second Saturday of the month.
The 2nd Annual International Festival of Cultures would be held in Paseo de Marianas, Garapan, and would begin at 5pm and end at 10pm. The festival would be hosting live performances, cultural demonstrations, arts and crafts, and offer cultural food.
