The Northern Marianas College is asking parents of recent high school graduates to encourage their son or daughter to take advantage of the services offered at Saturday’s Cash for College workshop.

The aim of the workshop is to assist students and their parents to maximize scholarship opportunities that are available for those seeking a college education at NMC or at other postsecondary institutions.

The free workshop will be held on Nov. 15, 2014, Saturday, at the NMC campuses on Saipan (As Terlaje campus in Building A), Tinian, and Rota. The workshop will be an ongoing session, so participants can stop by anytime between 9am to 3pm.

Participants will be provided with personal, step-by-step assistance in completing college financial aid forms, focusing especially on forms for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid, and the CNMI Scholarship.

Staff members from the college’s Office of Admissions and Records will also be present to provide information and assistance with the NMC application process.

Individuals who participate in NMC’s upcoming “Cash for College” workshops will qualify to have their spring 2015 admission application fee and placement test fees waived. The waiver represents a savings of up to $75.

It is recommended that workshop participants bring a valid form of identification (e.g., a valid U.S. passport, copy of valid application for a U.S. passport, birth certificate, or green card); an official transcript from high school (at least three official copies); tax forms; and proof of CNMI residency for 2012 and 2013, including proof of continuing residency. Applicants for SHEFA should bring a valid U.S. passport, a voter registration card, and proof of vote cast.

This free “Cash for College” workshop is made possible by the financial support of the U.S. Department of Education’s College Access Challenge Grant program. This federal program aims to increase the number of students from underrepresented minority populations enrolled in college.
