Pacific Alliance of Municipal Councils president Jim Atalig and vice president Juanita Mendiola met online last Nov. 14 with the representatives of Japan Lawyers International Solidarity Association to discuss plans to push forward the campaign against Japan dumping nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean.

The current plan decided during the meeting is to initially hold a video conference in January followed by visits by groups from Japan to hold mini conferences to gather grassroots support on Rota, Tinian, and Saipan in February or March 2023.

Both organizations hope to increase the voice of the people against any nuclear waste dumping in any ocean.

The members of PAMC are now on Rota to attend the Association of Mariana Islands Mayors and will introduce the movement for collaborative consideration.

Japan is planning to start releasing contaminated water in the summer next year. (PR)
