Former Board of Parole chair Ramon Blas “RB” Camacho, who is running for Saipan mayor in this year’s election, has secured the endorsement of Lt. Gov.
Arnold I. Palacios and Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang as the independent tandem’s candidate for Saipan mayor on Nov. 8.

This will be Camacho’s third successive run as an independent mayoral candidate.

Palacios and Apatang, who are running as governor and lieutenant governor, respectively, on an independent ticket, announced their endorsement of Camacho in a news briefing at the Palacios-Apatang team’s headquarters in Garapan late Friday afternoon.

“I really appreciate their trust and confidence in recruiting me and I’m willing also to join the group,” said Camacho in a later interview.

Camacho believes that the Palacios-Apatang group can do so much better for the CNMI.

When asked why the people of Saipan should vote for him, Camacho said that people have seen all his work in the past when he was in the municipal council, which was focused on promoting a safe and healthy community. One of Camacho’s initiatives was the creation of a neighborhood watch.

“I’m really for serving the community. Once the community steps up to the plate, it will lessen these problems that we are facing, specifically crimes in villages,” he said.

Camacho said he is a retired police officer and had been in the police for 20 years and that he sees that the police and the government cannot do it by themselves.

“We need to invite the community in, in order to have and promote a safe community,” Camacho said.

Palacios said they are happy to have Camacho on their team, as he has served the community well in different capacities.

Palacios said they will endorse Camacho as mayor, while Camacho will endorse their team.

Apatang said Camacho has been following their group since the beginning and that he is a very aggressive candidate.

Apatang said that they will be “working together, hand in hand” with Camacho for this election.

Apatang beat Camacho in the last two mayoral races.

For this year’s mayoral race, Camacho will be facing off with Rep. Joseph Lee Pan Guerrero of the NMI Republican Party and Rep. Richard T. Lizama of the NMI Democratic Party.
