Senate President Arnold Palacios (R-Saipan) has been named acting governor since both Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog are off-island for an extended period of time.

Palacios would be acting governor until Hocog’s return, which would be on June 28, 2017. Hocog would be acting governor until Torres’ return on July 2, 2017.

Torres is attending the Western Governors’ Association, or WGA, annual meeting in Montana. The 2017 annual meeting would feature U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and would be attended by WGA chair and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, WGA vice chair and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard, Wyoming Gov. Matt Meda, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, Alaska Gov. Bill Walker, Hawaii Gov. David Ige, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, and Idaho Gov. Butch Otter.

The WGA annual meeting is a meeting among state heads to discuss critical issues such as energy grids security, infrastructure, and more.

Torres left for Montana last June 23, 2017.

Hocog is reportedly in Shanghai, China with representatives of the Marianas Visitors Authority. They are reportedly attending a strategy meeting regarding the planning of the Marianas International Film Festival that is proposed for later this year.
