Paire recovered quickly from its opening season loss after defeating Shirley’s FC, 2-0, in the first game in the 2014 NMIFA Women’s League last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Paire scored the twin goals in the first half, getting the first one from Amanda Allen and the second from Kayleen Salle. Allen hit her target in the 28th minute, while Salle lit up the board five minutes later. Shirley’s FC failed to produce a single goal to fall to a 0-1-2 win-draw-loss record. Shirley’s other defeat was at the hands of the league-leading Kanoa FC, 1-5, during the opener last month, while it drew MP United, 1-1, in the Week 2 match. Paire also dropped its opener, bowing to Matansa FC, 1-0.

Matansa, which lost to Independents FC in the league’s opening game, notched back-to-back wins after bagging a free victory against Tan Holdings FC in last Saturday’s third and final match of the night. Tan Holdings, which absorbed its third loss in as many matches, failed to muster enough players for the game. The league is an 11 vs 11 contest, as Tan Holdings was two players short to see action in the pitch.

In the other game last weekend, Kanoa kept its perfect record after outclassing MP United, 2-0.

Lalaine Pagarao and Jeralyn Castillo scored one goal apiece in Kanoa’s third victory in as many games. Kanoa’s pair of goals came in a span of four minutes with Pagarao eluding her defenders and connecting a shot in the 25th minute and Castillo converting her attempt in the 29th minute.

With Kanoa adding two more goals, it has the most goals so far in the seven-team league with 12, while MP United and Matansa has six and four, respectively.

Meanwhile, Kanoa will go for win No. 4 when it takes on Tan Holdings in the curtain-raiser tomorrow at 4pm, while Matansa FC will challenge Shirley’s in the second match at 6pm. In the nightcap at 8pm, Independents FC will return to the Oleai pitch after taking a break in Week 3, as it faces Paire FC.
