Paire’ Corner, a new gourmet and deli place, formally opens on July 3 giving more life to the bustling business scene in San Jose Village, Tinian. Saipan’s Next Top Chef 2013 winner Rhea Backe leads this business venture as operations manager and chef.

“I have always had a passion for cooking and in 2013, this passion made me win Saipan’s Next Top Chef competition. I was both the first female participant and amateur to win. This made me believe and gain confidence that I am capable of cooking good food and share my home recipes and cooking style with the community,” she said.

“To make the Tinian community know that we are here and ready to serve, we had a soft opening last June 10 and on July 3 will be our grand opening. This gourmet and deli shop is for everyone on Tinian and we can’t wait to have customers from Saipan, Rota, Guam, and from just about anywhere,” she added.

Paire’ Corner serves sub sandwiches like classic turkey sub, black forest ham sub, chieken teriyaki sub, Paire’ signature pastrami sub, and Paire’ pulled pork sandwich. Their delicious paninis include teriyaki-style chicken, black forest ham, and baled turkey paninis. All subs and sandwiches are reasonably priced and draught beer will soon be available which is a first on Tinian.

Paire’ Corner marketing director Lizabeth Hofschneider said that they wanted to offer something different on Tinian. Being a teacher at Tinian Jr. Sr High School, Hofschieder has a pretty good grip the beat of the community. “We want to offer something different to local residents, tourists, and visiting military servicemen and women… One thing I realized is that our local people love gourmet sandwiches as we have regulars who show up almost daily,” she said.

“Customer feedback is important for us to grow and serve our customers better. Some of the feedback that go so far are ‘Thank you for bringing gourmet subs to our island,’ ‘I love the pulled pork sub,’ ‘baked turkey panini is the best’…My sincerest appreciation to the community of Tinian for the warm welcome of our sub/deli restaurant,” she added.

Backe said that where Paire’ Corner stands now used to be the Tinian Teen Center. “Aside from offering subs and paninis, we were also able to provide jobs. Two of my staff used to work at the Teen Center, Edwin Manibusan and Charlene Danganan… All employees must undergo physical screening and attend a food-handling seminar.”

“Currently, we have seven apprentices—two from Saipan and five from Tinian. With this COVID-19 pandemic, students transitioning to college are looking for a source of income to support their education. We are grateful to be the bridge to achieve their goal, whether for college or career. We also we continue to build partnerships with our local vendors.”

Paire’ Corner on Tinian is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm for lunch and 5pm to 9pm for dinner. They give 10% discount to military veterans, soldiers, and locals. For more information, call (670) 433-2683 or look them up on Facebnook: Paire’ Corner.
