Pacific Games tryouts’ 3rd round tomorrow
Ed Peter is once again inviting all Saipan golfers to join tomorrow’s third round of the CNMI Men’s National Golf Team open tryouts at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.
Registration on Saturday starts at 10am and tee off is set one hour after. This will be the final day at COP while the last two rounds—Feb. 14 and 21—will be held at Kingfisher Golflinks with the same times.
Peter said the tryout is open to all golfers whether you’re a member of any of the local golf associations on Saipan—Refaluwasch Golf Association, Marianas Golf Association, Saipan Gofers Association or FilTaga.
“Everyone is invited whether you’re RGA, SGA, MGA or FilTaga. Even if you’re not going to tryout, you can still play to show your support to the team that’s being formed,” said Peter.
He again called out all RGA members to also come out and play a round of golf.
J.J. Atalig topped two of the first five rounds of tryouts, which follows a gross play format for 18 rounds, to become one of the early favorites of securing a spot on the CNMI Men’s National Golf Team.
The Top 12 golfers after the five rounds will qualify in the next stage where they will play another five rounds. The Top 5 golfers, including one alternate, after the final qualifying stage will make up Team CNMI and represent the Commonwealth in the 2015 Pacific Games.
Peter is also thankful for the monetary pledge that MGA made. MGA will be donating to the CNMI men’s golf team.
“All money to be collected will be used on the team’s trip to the Pacific Games. MGA’s pledge to the fund will be a big help for the team,” added Peter, who is hoping to coach the team to the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea from July 4 to 18.
The Royal Port Moresby Golf Club in the National Capital District will be hosting the four-day golf tournament in the 15th edition of the quadrennial sporting event will. Teams will also have a two-day practice round before the actual competition.
Teams will fight for 12 medals at stake in the men’s and women’s singles and the men’s and women’s team events.
In the last three rounds, participants will only pay the green fee and an additional $20 for Team CNMI’s fund to the Pacific Games.
