The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation will hold its exhibit on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, from 7:30am to 3pm, at the Kagman Community Center, in celebration of Parent Leadership Month, which is spearheaded by the Division of Youth Services.

At the same time, OVR will use this opportunity to reach out to Kagman and neighboring residents with disabilities who are interested in applying for vocational rehabilitation services to prepare for work. Interested individuals should bring a copy of the following documents, if applicable: valid picture ID; health insurance card; two latest check stubs or tax return, if claiming dependent (for financial participation purposes); most recent medical, psychological, and/or school records, etc.; SSI or SSDI verification; legal guardianship; and CW-1 visa valid not less than six months for foreign or non-immigrant worker.

An applicant is eligible for vocational rehabilitation services if the individual:

Is an individual with a disability

Has a physical or mental impairment that constitutes or results in a substantial impediment to employment; and can benefit in terms of an employment outcome from vocational rehabilitation services;

Requires vocational rehabilitation services to prepare for, secure, or retain employment; and

Has legal status to allow employment in the CNMI or the United States.

It is the mission of OVR to increase employment and promote independence among eligible individuals with disabilities throughout the CNMI. OVR relies on its partners such as consumers with disabilities and their families, the Public School System, institutions of higher learning, Labor Department and workforce system, and the business community to accomplish the goals and objectives of the agency as outlined in its approved state plan.

Companies that are looking to hire qualified people with disabilities to diversify their business or comply with federal or local employment laws as well as to obtain technical assistance on reasonable job accommodations are encouraged to call OVR at 322-6537/38. (OVR)
