Over $88K now available for Rota’s scholars
The CNMI Department of Finance has established an account for the Rota Municipal Scholarship and has started the process of disbursing over $88,000 to eligible scholars on Rota.
According to Sen. Teresita Santos (Ind-Rota), over the weekend, she received word from Rota Municipal Scholarship Board chair Ivan Mereb informing her office that the Department of Finance has successfully established an account for Rota’s local scholarship program.
“My office has received information [that]…the listing of names is currently being inputted for the processing of the awards or issuance of the scholarship checks. The total funding that is presently available is $88,509,” she said.
Meanwhile, Rota students interested in pursuing higher education are strongly encouraged to submit applications to the Rota Municipal Scholarship Board. Students are also reminded to submit all required documents to avoid delay in reviewing and receiving their benefits.
According to Saipan Tribune archives, the Rota Municipal Scholarship and Housing Program was previously placed on hold indefinitely due to a change in the CNMI’s financial management system.
According to a letter from Santos addressed to Finance Secretary David Atalig, she informed the CNMI Department of Finance that the Rota Municipal Scholarship and Housing Program remains suspended indefinitely due to a change in the CNMI’s financial management system.
Specifically, the program was on hold because the scholarship program team was unable to enter pertinent information into the ‘Munis,’ the CNMI’s new financial management system.
Santos pointed out that dozens of students were awaiting financial aid, with the end of the school year fast approaching.
Because of this, Santos sought Atalig’s help in resolving the issues with the financial management system so Rota scholars could soon receive their financial aid.
