Over 140 join Bike & Run for Cure

Triathlon Association in the CNMI along with the Commonwealth Cancer Association hosted the 3rd Bike & Run for Cure with more than 140 participating in last Saturday’s event that aimed at promoting Prostate & Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Seventy bikers joined the 30-kilometer MTB race from the American Memorial Park to Banzai Cliff and back, while 72 negotiated the 5-kilometer uphill run course at the Gov. Ely S. Inos Memorial Peace Park.

Joel Buco was the top finisher in the MTB race, while JC Libut and Willie Barbo rounded out the Top 3 in the men’s field. In the women’s division, youth rider JC Ferrer made it to the AMP first, while Emily Northrop and Heather Brook-Taylor came in at second and third, respectively

Pre-Hell Race Series 2

Meanwhile, riders returned to the road the following day after joining Bike & Run for Cure to compete in the Pre-Hell Race Series 2.

Familiar names figured in the Top 3 of the various categories with Libut leading the finishers of the nearly 28K race. Libut clocked in at 54:43 to nose out Buco (54:44), while Cesar Fortaleza completed the Top 3 in the men’s division. In the women’s Northtop posted 55:49 to beat Ferrer (56:28) and Taylor (58:22).

In the 40 and below age group, Roy Dalangye (55:44) was ranked first and followed by Ernie Henzon (55:48) and Shie Meng Huan (59:02). Nap Dizon ruled the 41 to 49 category after checking in at 55:24, while Ariel Garcia (55:57) and Bob Ferrer (57:08) joined him in the Top 3.

The other podium finishers in last Sunday’s race were 50 to 54’s Rolly Quihon (58:49), Derek Chambers (1:00:46) and Nomer Mangalinao (1:01:56) and 55 and above’s Norlo Jacosalem (56:25), Willy Barbo (58:20) and Phil Guiang (58:21).

The race, which aimed at preparing bikers for the Hell of Marianas, brought participants to Mariana Resort (start and finish line), Mobil Tanapag, Bird island Lookout, Grotto, and Banzai Cliff.
