‘Over 1,000 signatures support repeal of Saipan local law’
Two e-gaming companies in the CNMI announced yesterday that they have collected over 1,000 signatures on a petition asking for the repeal of a Saipan local law that essentially doubles the license fees of e-gaming venues.
In a statement, MP Holdings LLC and Mariana Entertainment LLC, which operate Saipan Vegas and Club 88 respectively, said that supporters have also signed over 100 letters addressed to the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation asking for delegation lawmakers to meet with the e-gaming operators and to work with them on compromise amendments to Saipan Local Law 22-6.
Bart Jackson, general manager of MP Holdings LLC, said: “We are very grateful to the community for the support, and particularly their support for our call to ask the Saipan delegation to amend SLL 22-6.”
The statement quotes Jackson as saying that the e-gaming operators will be delivering later yesterday to Sen. Vinson “Vinnie” Sablan (R-Saipan), who chairs the delegation, an update to their petition, which now contains more than 1,100 signatures.
“We will also be delivering more than 100 letters of support from local voters respectfully asking for the Saipan delegation to amend SLL 22-6 to reduce the harsh effects of the double license fees.
“We remain hopeful that we can reach a reasonable compromise with the Saipan delegation regarding an amendment to SLL 22-6 that will allow us to remain economically viable and to keep our more than 70 local employees employed,” he added. (Saipan Tribune)
