Share

On Oct. 16, Dr. Tiffany Lin, pediatric hematology (blood disorder) fellow at University of California at San Francisco and pediatrician at the Commonwealth Health Center, and Pam Carhill, MPT of Marianas Health’s Pacific Wellness Cente, will be doing outreach and education on Von Willebrand’s Disease at the Thursday Street Market. Lin and Carhill will be guests of the Empty Vessel Ministry and be passing out educational materials and speaking individually with persons who think they may have a child with a bleeding disorder.

Women with bleeding disorders may have the following symptoms:

• Heavy and long-lasting menstrual periods.

The average menstrual period lasts anywhere from two to seven days. In contrast, many women with bleeding disorders experience:

• Periods lasting more than 7 days

• Periods that pass clots the size of a quarter

• Periods requiring more than one pad every 2 hours

• Iron deficiency

• If you have ever required a blood transfusion because of severe bleeding

• Heavy bleeding and hemorrhaging after childbirth

If you or your daughter experience these symptoms, come down to the Street Market and we will give you the next steps to be further assessed at CHC. For any inquiries call 483-0162. (PR)
