Our condolences
This is meant to let the friends of Ann and Bill Stewart know that they have passed away. Ann passed away about a week ago and Bill passed away just a few days ago. The daughter Ann and Bill, Kathryn Stewart McDonald, contacted me via phone to inform me that her parents passed away only a week apart: Ann died on or about Nov. 25 and Bill died on or about Dec. 5.
Ann and Bill Stewart came to Saipan at the time U.S. Trust Territory governed the Micronesian Islands. Bill Stewart was the deputy director of Resources and Development. He was responsible for the economic development of the six districts under TTPI. Bill Stewart was the industrial economist and spent several years touring the other five districts help them identify their economic potential.
I had the pleasure of working with Bill Steward in the establishment of the 200-room Saipan Beach Inter-Continental Inn. He was also involved in his advisory capacity in assisting other development here in the Northern Mariana Islands.
In 1990 I was appointed by the then-governor Lorenzo I. Guerrero to head the Budget and Planning Division of his administration. I, of course, asked Bill Stewart to help the staff develop a 10-year plan to be submitted to the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Mr. Steve LeMieu also joined the team.
I know there are many in Micronesia who know Bill and Ann Stewart. I am sure I speak for many that we will immensely miss Bill and Ann. Our deepest sorrow and sympathy to Kathryn for the loss of her parents and we stand ready to help in any way we can to lighten the heavy feeling.
Rita and Dave M. Sablan
