The first-ever Opportunity Expo at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe last Saturday drew over 300 participants and over 40 organizations, surpassing the expectations of both Precinct 2 Rep. Christina Sablan (Ind-Saipan) and John Paul “J.P.” Sablan (R-Saipan), who organized the event.

According to Rep. Christina Sablan, both their offices projected about 200 participants and about 30 organizations setting up booths at the multi-purpose but the number of organizations went over 40 and a couple more joined on Saturday itself. The expo was not merely a job fair but also showcased the many opportunities in the CNMI, including micro-finance, scholarships, and training opportunities.

The event was held from 10am to 6pm.

Rep. Christina Sablan and John Paul “J.P.” Sablan thanked all the businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations that participated in the expo.

They also thanked their offices and the participants who took the time to visit and see the many opportunities that the organizations had on display last Saturday.

The variety of organizations varied, from providing job offerings, training solutions, educational programs, and programs for individuals with disabilities, to resources for those who sought to improve their health, and much more.

“We’ve had jobs fairs and resource fairs in the past, but this is a comprehensive effort to try to bring all of those different organizations and opportunities together that we want to encourage our community to take advantage of,” Rep. Christina Sablan said.

She said they support the idea of holding another expo in the future. “We’re going to touch back with the different organizations that participated and do a debrief to see if this is something that they would like to see continue in the future,” she said.
