Operation Homefront Support 2014 gets underway

The CNMI Operation Homefront Support for this year is gearing up once again for its 7th year of sending care packages to military reservists and active service members this December.

The annual packaging will be on Dec. 6 at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, from 8am to 10am.

Operation Homefront Support organizer Nola K. Hix said that Seventh Day Adventist Clinic recently donated new toothbrushes and floss to be placed in the care packages for the troops.

“We thank them for their continuous support every year. Over the years SDA has donated new toothbrushes and floss. The intent is that once the military servicemen and women have devoured all the goodies in the packages, they also remember to brush their teeth and floss,” Hix said.

Last year Operation Homefront sent out 280 care packages.

“All interested donors are encouraged to give me a call as no donation is too little or too small…and we look forward to sending out all the packages just in time for the holidays,” Hix said.

She said they are starting their efforts early to ensure that they get as many addresses of servicemen and women as possible.

“Because of the sensitivity of troop movement, oftentimes service members will relocate, and their families in the NMI will not know about it until weeks or even months down the line,” she said.
