The Omechelang couple topped a monthly tournament for the first time this year with Percy claiming his third crown and first since winning back-to-back in June and July. They went home with a combined prize pot of $165, $90 for the King of the Lanes, while $75 for the Queen.
Percy had a four-game total of 779 pinfalls in last Saturday’s competition. He opened with a 208 but had a measly 136 in the second game before posting a 227 in the third and ending with a 208 for a 194.75 average.
Percy also joined last Saturday’s contest, but had an off night in the second day with his 607, as he failed to score in the 200s with his 147, 147, 185 and 128 for an average of 151.75 pinfalls. However, no other bowler managed to catch up with his first day tally with Ariel Dumapit falling short by 11 pins with 768—172, 191, 225, 180—for a 192 average. Dumapit settled for the $40 runner-up prize, while his brother, Raul, came in third at 751 (204, 226, 182, 139).
Meanwhile, Gloria just blew past her Queen of the Lanes opponents with a four-game total of 762. She registered an 81-pinfall victory over three-time monthly winner Diana Camacho, who tallied 681.
Gloria, after rolling 582 in the first day, had a slow start in the final day of the tournament with a 145 and slightly improved her score with a 183 in the second game. She burned the SBC lanes with a 242 in Game 3 to move into title contention and then sealed the deal with a 192 in the final game for a 190.5 average.
Camacho, meanwhile, failed to match Gloria’s brilliant game, finishing with a 605 on Sunday, but the former’s 681 in the first day were enough to give her the $35 second place prize money. Janice Camacho finished third with a 629—166, 139, 168, 156—for the 157.25 average and the $15 purse. (Jon Perez)
