The Ol’Aces and Kagman Poksu registered contrasting wins in the 2015 Tan Holdings Christmas Basketball Tournament yesterday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

The Ol’Aces eked out a 46-44 victory against the Sonics in the boys U19 division, while Kagman Poksu eased past Chow Time, 33-7, in the women’s pairing.

Jerald Castillo hit the dagger for the Ol’Aces, converting a triple from the top key in the closing seconds of the match. The Ol’Aces are now 2-0 to share the early lead with the Rollers 1, while the Sonics dropped to a 1-1 record.

It was a come-from-behind win for the Ol’Aces, as they faced a 7-point deficit at the half, 18-25.

The Sonics took the upper hand in the first half behind the combined 16 points of Ronnie Sto. Domingo and Gerald Flores.

Both Flores and Sto. Domingo were then held scoreless in the second half, allowing the Ol’Aces to mount a comeback and stole the win.

In the women’s division game, Kagman Poksu led right at the get-go en route to the 26-point winning margin.

Again, Chow Time’s lack of offensive firepower sealed the doom for the squad early, as it failed to hit the board in the first half, while Kagman scored 17 with multiple players contributing to the winning squad’s cause.

Chow Time finally lit up the board at the 8:24 mark of the second half off a triple from Kimmy Ocampo, but it only nailed two more baskets after that to absorb its second loss in as many games.

Kagman got its first victory after losing its debut to Mt. Carmel School, 23-62, during the tournament’s opening day late last month.
