Ol’Aces basketball tournament begins tomorrow
The Ol’Aces Alumni Basketball Tournament that was originally set to open two weeks ago will finally begin tomorrow at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Oleai Sports Complex program coordinator Elias Rangamar said that the tournament will definitely start this Thursday as minor repairs at the gym, like painting and light installation, have been completed.
The tournament will kick off the celebration of the Ol’Aces’ 45 years of existence. It will also serve as a fundraiser for the group’s girls U18 and boys U14 teams that will compete in the annual Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Guam this November.
Rangamar said 21 teams have confirmed their participation in the month-long tournament. Squads are spread out in the co-ed latte division (U15), open classic, and the 4×4 legends class.
The Ol’Aces Pa’keyu, Ol’Aces Pa’fao, Ol’Aces Anemi, Basa Clan, and Young Warriors are entered in the co-ed latte division, while Kobler Boyz, Oleai Boyz, Da Projects, Socho, Ghasias Boys, The Game Athletics, Warriors, and Mix Plate Combo will be playing in the open classic category. Fantastic 7, Doc’s Blood Pressure, Mommas Boys, Sofa King Good, Blue Bloods, J’s Shrimp/Chicken combo, Bas Ass, and The Game Athletics will see action in the legends division.
The tournament will feature “first of its kind” rules where there will be no referees and players will call their own fouls and violations.
