The Ol’Aces eased their way to the finals of the women’s division of the 2018 MIBF Island-wide Basketball League, leaving the Lady Ol’Aces and Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan to battle for the last ticket to the championship round.
The Ol’Aces hammered the Docomo Rollers last Monday, 92-32, to move into the best-of-three title series that will start on Monday, while the Lady Ol-Aces and Fiesta fought for the last finals slot last night. Results of the second semis game in the division were unavailable at press time.
Micronesian Games-bound Eleina Santos powered the Ol’Aces to the lopsided win after firing 27 points. Alliyah Fernandez backed her up after adding 17, while Desrei Camacho as the third Ol’Aces player to score in twin digits with 12.
A.J. Garon had 12 to lead the Docomo Rollers, which bowed out of competition winless.
A 25-6 scoring surge in the first quarter set up the Ol’Aces’ easy win, as the first finalists simply had too much offensive firepower against their struggling opponents.
Meanwhile, the Ol’Aces also won convincingly in the men’s division, crushing the Chalan Kanoa Ballerz, 91-49.
Douglas Schmidt paced the Ol’Aces with his 17 points, while Freddie Pelisamen and N-Nes Siech chipped in 12 and 10, respectively. Six other Ol’Aces players registered at least 8 points each for the team’s balance offense.
White Capalad and Eric Deleon Guerrero had 12 points apiece to top-score for the winless Ballerz, which logged only 4 points in the first quarter and never got its offensive game going.
