Okeanos Marianas to provide free rides to Pika Festival
The Okeanos Marianas will be offering free rides to and from the Pika Festival for Saipan residents in order for crewmembers of the traditional canoe to gain sailing experience.
Okeanos Marianas Sustainable Sea Transport LTD managing director Emma Perez said the Okeanos Marianas will be used to help transport Saipan residents to the island of Tinian for the 14th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival from Feb. 17 to 19.
“The rides would be free because we are still doing our training sails for the crew,” she said.
The Okeanos Marianas will serve as an alternate means of transportation for Saipan locals.
Perez has yet to finalize the schedule so interested individuals can reach Perez at 285-7342 for additional information.
Other means of transportation to the festival is the ferry that will be provided by the Marianas Visitors Authority and Star Marianas Airlines, which will be providing evening flights as late as 10pm.
MVA is urging the public to act fast and reserve ferry seats for the 14th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival.
The MVA has already secured a ferry for Saipan’s residents to celebrate with Tinian locals at the upcoming Pika Festival but seats are filling up quick.
According to MVA community projects coordinator Ray Villagomez, the ferry can only take up to 39 passengers per trip and already over 20 individuals have reserved spots on the ferry for the festival’s opening night.
Villagomez said the ferry seats are limited and it is a first-come, first-serve basis for anyone interested.
The ferry will only take on passengers from early morning and take passengers back in the evening. Ferry rides will only be offered from Feb. 18 to 19. Roundtrip tickets are set at $35 per person.
