The Office of the Attorney General announced yesterday the roll out of an innovative education program called “Consumer Caution Corner.” This program will promote a safer marketplace by providing a weekly publication that seeks to educate and enable both consumers and businesses with the “know-how” to identify scams.

“Each week, the ‘Consumer Caution Corner’ publication will address a wide range of issues that affect every person in our community, ranging from how to avoid identity theft to specific consumer guides that warn consumers about how to protect themselves from unfair trade practices and marketplace schemes,” said Attorney General Edward Manibusan.

In addition, the Office of the Attorney General will be offering free hard copies of the subjects addressed in these weekly articles, courtesy of the Federal Trade Commission, which focuses on protecting consumers and businesses at the federal level.

“In acknowledging and appreciating our vibrant and diverse community, we have successfully requested and received every FTC publication offered in multiple languages in efforts to best accommodate and protect consumers,” added Manibusan.

Consumer Protection Complaint forms and hard copies of these publications can be picked up at the Office of the Attorney General on Capital Hill. If you have any questions or concerns about your rights as a consumer or your obligations as a business under the CNMI Consumer Protection Act, contact the consumer counsel by email at michaelcyganek@cnmioag.org.
