Tentative opening of AMP tennis courts on Oct. 25

It is National Park Service standard practice to monitor, review, and make improvements during capital improvement projects occurring on National Park Service Lands. During the rehabilitation project, monitoring and review processes were conducted by the CNMI Department of Public Works and American Memorial Park. In the interest of public safety, an agreement was made to adjust the original concept.

The original concept called for the tennis court entry point to be installed approximately 100 feet west of the Middle Road and Micro Beach Road intersection. The adjustment agreed upon by CNMI DPW and American Memorial Park authorizes the access point to be relocated approximately 200 feet west of the Middle Road and Micro Beach Road. This adjustment will improve safety for motorist and individuals utilizing the tennis courts. The relocation of the tennis court entry point will require earthmoving, tree removal, and paving operations for project completion.

Due to the scope of this project, NPS Pacific West Regional Civil Engineer Scott Henrickson will execute a site visit to inspect the completed project. The inspection is planned for late October. In the interim, the tennis courts, tennis facilities, playground, and adjacent areas will remain closed to the public. The tentative date of facility opening is Oct. 25, 2014. (NPS)
