Noru now a supertyphoon but moves away

Typhoon Noru is now a supertyphoon, packing maximum sustained winds at 150 miles per hour.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service, Noru is expected to maintain this strength Monday night, then begin to weaken today, Tuesday.

Moving west at 5 miles per hour, Noru was expected to turn northwest yesterday and then gradually northward today, Tuesday.

As of 1pm yesterday, the eye of Noru was located about 145 miles south-southwest of Iwo To, 450 miles northwest of Agrihan, 645 miles north-northwest of Saipan, and 715 miles north-northwest of Guam.

The forecast is that it is moving toward Japan over the weekend.
