CNMI Weightlifting has moved the venue for the Northern Marianas Cup Weightlifting Tournament set for Jan. 7 from the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe to the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

“Our competition at the multi-purpose center was preempted by the CNMI government (inauguration), now the event will be at the former Pacific Mini Games office at the Ada Gym,” said CNMI Weightlifting president John Davis.

The Northern Marianas Cup Weightlifting Tournament is expected to have competition in the youth, junior, and senior divisions with 10 male and 10 female weight categories.

Davis said the competition will be one of several qualifying events for selection of the 2023 CNMI Weightlifting National Team.

Entry fee is $20 for non-members, while CNMI Weightlifting members get to compete for free.

Entry forms can be obtained from CNMI Weightlifting secretary Jeanne Rayphand at the Northern Marianas Protection & Advocacy Systems, Inc. office in Gualo Rai.

Entries must be received by CNMI Weightlifting’s Rayphand on or before Dec. 31, 2022.

For more information about the Northern Marianas Cup Weightlifting Tournament, call Jeanne Rayphand, (670) 287-9807 or (670) 235-7273.

Of the 38 medals won overall by the CNMI in the Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games 2022, weightlifting bagged 23 gold that also included 10 silver and two bronze medals.

Gold medals were won by Ray Santos and David Barnhouse (three apiece), Angel San Nicolas, Jason Limes (two each), and Joey Colisao (one).

The 10 silvers were three each from Leo Apelo and Antonette Labausa, two from Colisao, and one apiece from Leowel Cristobal and Angel San Nicolas.  Riella Ann Ichiou and Jason Limes then delivered the two bronze medals for Team NMI.
