Norita tops SGA June tourney

Ned Norita won the Saipan Golfers Association’s June Ace of the Month Tournament at Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort last June 24.

Norita drained a field-high five birdies in his round and finished with a field-low gross score of 72 and won last month’s ace honors with a net score of 68, despite coming up on the shorter end of score card run-off with Das Krishnan who also carded a net 68.

The tournament was formatted with hole No. 8 designated as the run-off hole, which was coincidentally a “stroke-hole” for Das, via handicap.

Since both golfers recorded bogeys on hole No. 8, Das was supposed to win against the field of 26 golfers who turned out for the event.

However, since Das already won the ace honors last May, Norita was issued the June plum along with the second prize purse.

Norita, who also won the longest drive honors on holes No. 6 and 8, thus joins January ace Tony Deleon Guerrero, who finished June’s event in third place with a 71 net score; February ace Juan L. Babauta; and April’s Art Deleon Guerrero for the season-ending Ace of Ace Tournament.

Other notables from June’s round included Ed Manibusan sinking a pair of birdies and seizing the closest to the pin honors on holes No. 3 and 12, Jimmy Wang, who nabbed a couple of birdies and took closest to the pin spoils in hole No. 7, and Steve Balakrishna, who pocketed a birdie and won closest to the pin in hole No. 14.

Fourth placer Jess Castro (72) and Adam Hardwicke also came away with a birdie apiece.

SGA’s July Ace event is scheduled for July 22 at the Marianas Country Club. Show time is set for 9am with a 10:30am tee off.
