Nominations open for Businesswoman of the Year

First Hawaiian Bank and Guam Business Magazine are seeking nominations for the 10th Annual Businesswoman of the Year Maga’Haga award. The Maga’Haga award recognizes one dynamic businesswoman in Guam or on Saipan who has made an impact in her field or industry as well as in the community.

A nominee for the award should be a businesswoman who:

• is a resident of Guam or Saipan;

• has made a significant difference in her industry through her organization or business;

• has contributed to her community;

• is a leading representative in her profession or field;

• displays the best qualities of someone in business.

The deadline for nominations is April 24. The winner will be announced at the Businesswoman of the Year Gala on June 20 at the Lotte Hotel Guam.

The gala is also a fundraiser for the Businesswoman of the Year scholarship program. Open to both full-time and part-time college students, the scholarship program promotes higher education by providing financial assistance to college students at the University of Guam, Guam Community College, and Northern Marianas College who are pursuing professional careers in business or related fields.

The 2014 Businesswoman of the Year Maga’Haga award recipient was Shirley Ann T. Sablan, executive vice president and general manager of Pacifica Insurance Underwriters Inc. in Saipan. Past recipients include F. Marie Calvo-Monge, chief operating officer and executive producer of Pacific Telestations; Mary P. Rhodes, president of the Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association and president of MARQ Consulting Services; Joyce Q. Crisostomo, executive director of Cars Plus and president of Payless Car Rental; Anna Wang Kao, founder and president of Genghis Khan Furniture Co.; Lorraine S. Okada, president of Okada Managing Consulting Services; Julienne Rose Perez Duenas, physical therapist, owner and clinical director of Sports, Orthopedic and Active Rehabilitation Inc.; Christine Won Pat Baleto, general manager of Market Wholesale Distributors; and Katherine C. Sgro, executive vice president and chairwoman of the board for Pay-Less Markets Inc.
