NOAA program seeks 7 fellows
The National Coral Reef Management Fellowship Program seeking seven men and women to complete a two-year fellowship program that seeks to build new leaders and capacity for effective coral reef management.
Fellows will be assigned in one of seven jurisdictions: Florida, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the CNMI.
Nova Southeastern University will oversee the fellowship program, which is a partnership between NSU, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Coral Reef Conservation Program, the Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs, and the U.S. All Islands Coral Reef Committee.
This program will place seven individuals that meet each jurisdiction’s specific coral reef management needs. The position is for two years.
The vision for the program is to develop a thriving collaborative fellowship program that builds excellent next generation leaders and capacity for effective local coral reef ecosystem management.
The program is currently accepting applications for those interested in being a fellow. Applicants must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine sciences, environmental sciences or a related field and some professional experience related to their educational history. Specifics vary depending on the jurisdiction in question.

Fellows can be expected to work on national goals for climate change, land-based sources of pollution and fishing, as well as addressing local needs such as the development of management plans for marine managed areas, increased community involvement in monitoring and response, climate change adaptation, and biological monitoring.
