CNMI swimmers may have to wait for about three more months before plunging into action at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.

“The public swimming pool used for NMISF competitions will not be available until the end of this year,” Northern Mariana Islands Swimming Federation’s Carol Lynn Calobong-Pierce told Saipan Tribune.

The only 50-meter pool on island is still closed for public used due to the damage it sustained from Typhoon Soudelor that hit the island early last month. The water circulation system at the pool was broken.

“At this point in time, the individual clubs are using pools at hotels and the lagoon for venues to hold their practices,” added Calobong-Pierce, who was talking of Saipan Swim Club and Tsunami Saipan.

Both clubs had to start their 2015-2016 season late because of the destructive typhoon and the unavailability of the pool in Marpi, while NMISF has yet to create its calendar of events for the new season.

Had it not for the typhoon, NMISF season should have started this month. Last year, the group kicked off the season with a mini meet sponsored by SSC, while the first NMISF began its series of timed races in October. In November last year, NMISF had the SSC-led All School Championships, while the former held its midseason meet in December. The remaining NMISF-sanctioned events last year, including the International Invitation Swim Meet that drew off-island swimmers, were spread from January to May.
