Despite the government’s decision to place the CNMI on Level Green in the Community Vulnerability rating scale, the Saipan Mayor’s Office will be sticking to its plan for a low-key Liberation Day this year.

According to Mayor David M. Apatang, his office’s plans for this year’s celebrations will remain, as it is now too close to July 4 to make new plans.

In a statement obtained via email through an Office of the Mayor staff member, Apatang explained how long it typically takes to plan Liberation Day festivities, and what will be a part of the celebrations this year.

“There is still no change, it is too close to the date to start planning the Liberation Day festivities because it normally takes about four months to prepare. There will be no parade this year, but there will be fireworks on July 4th evening at the Garapan Fishing Base,” said Apatang.
