The Northern Marianas Technical Institute board of trustees has elected Mario Valentino as chairman of the group in an election held last March 12 at the NMTI office in Lower Base.

The other new officers of NMTI board are Ray Pangelinan as vice chairman, Irene Holl as secretary, and Camelita Falsao as treasurer. The other board members are Catherine Attao-Toves, Richard Kautz, and Rota’s representative Deron Mendiola.

According to Valentino, the board will continue to focus on the funding cuts that were made on the NMTI budget moving forward.

NMTI chief executive officer Agnes McPhetres is not losing hope, though, saying she and other NMTI officials continue to go up Capital Hill to ask for operations money from the Torres administration and the Legislature. Recently, they asked the Legislature for funding amounting to $300,000.

“Hopefully the Legislature is considering our request,” she added.

Valentino will serve as board chairman for two years. Pangelinan as vice chairman will serve for four years. Holl will serve for two years. Falsao will serve for four years.

The next NMTI board meeting will be on April 9 at the Bridge Capital LLC office in Garapan. (Chevy Alipio)
