NMSA wants 5 sports revived
The Northern Marianas Sports Association is seeking expression of interest from men and women to organize national federations and coach teams in wrestling, softball, bodybuilding, table tennis, and rugby 7s.
NMSA president Michael White said at one time, there were active federations in each of these sports and under the leadership of these federations, teams representing the CNMI participated in the Micronesian Games, the Pacific Games, and other international competitions with some success.
“However, over the past few years, federations in these sports have become inactive, and with the exception of softball, the sports are no longer being actively played in the CNMI,” he said.
White said NMSA believes that the CNMI can excel in these sports and its athletes should participate in them internationally.
However, NMSA recognizes that, in order to rebuild the programs in these sports, NMSA needs people who share its goals, who have the time and the interest to implement them, and who are willing to make the effort to do so.
“If there are men and women who are interested in organizing these sports in the CNMI, and in leading our national teams, NMSA would appreciate the opportunity to meet with them to discuss how we might progress toward our goal,” said White.
The NMSA president said those interested can contact him by email at mwhite@saipan.com, and tell NMSA about their interest, their qualification, and how NMSA can help them lead the CNMI forward in these sports. (NMSA)
