The Northern Marianas Sports Association is now accepting nominations for its board of directors.

Nine directors will be elected to the NMSA Board at the annual general assembly with Tinian and Rota having one representative each. All nominees must be part of an organized sports body that is duly-recognized by the NMSA. One of the nine directors, to be nominated by the soon-to-be formed Athletes’ Commission, will be named Athletes’ Representative and must be an active athlete or has represented the NMI in international competitions in the last 10 years.

Nominees must be a resident of the NMI with residency of at least two years upon his/her nomination. He/she must be a board member or officer of a sports body and must be nominated by their respective national federation.

Nominations must be made on national federation letterhead using the NMSA-prescribed format. Nomination packages must include board member nomination and acceptance of nomination declaration forms and a resume of the nominee. Nomination packages may be submitted to NMSA via email at marianassports@gmail.com by Feb. 14, 2022.

Directors will serve a term of four years with their term of office starting on March 31, 2022—the day of the election at the NMSA annual general assembly.

The NMSA is the governing body of sports in the NMI and is in charge of the maintenance and operations of the Oleai Sports Complex. The association provides support to national sports federations and their athletes and officials as they participate in local, regional, and international competitions and implement various programs in the community.

“We are encouraging the different sports federations to participate in this nomination process and take an active role in helping elevate NMI sports to a higher level. We need all hands on deck for us to continue providing opportunities for our athletes and officials, and to promote and develop a sports culture in our communities,” NMSA vice president and Northern Marianas Athletics president Ray Tebuteb said.
