The Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association will hold another qualifier for the CNMI National Beach Volleyball Team for the Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games 2022 on March 19 at the sand courts of Crowne Plaza Resort in Garapan.
Dubbed For The Luck of Volleyball, the one-day tournament is a men’s and women’s doubles event where the Top 2 teams from each division taking home prizes.
NMIVA president Somia Quan confirmed that the competition will serve as a tryout for the Mini Games that will be held for the first time in the CNMI from June 17 to 25 this year.
“We consider this still a tryout tournament as the tryout committee is constantly evaluating individual players. The difference between this tournament and the last tournaments we’ve held is that the players will choose their own partner to participate together. This is our first beach 2v2 tournament of the year so I would expect quite a bit of entries,” she said.
Quan added that the For The Luck of Volleyball will not only serve as a Mini Games tryout, it will also play a crucial role as NMIVA ramps up to hosting the 2022 Marianas Cup next month.
“We hope to use this tournament as a feeder tournament for the Marianas Cup which we will be having the weekend of April 23-24. At that tourney, we hope to have the men’s and women’s national teams from Guam and Palau participating along with some other off-island teams.”
Last November, Tyce Mister and Kathleen Winkfield were hailed King and Queen of the Court during the second Mini Games tryouts held by NMIVA also at the Crowne Plaza Resort venue.
