NMIS students shine in regional speech competition

Northern Marianas International School students once again showed their excellence in speech competition during the National Junior Speech & Debate Association regional competition.

The contest kicked off at Dandan Middle School on Feb. 21 and ended at Mt. Carmel School on Feb. 26-28, 2015.

NMIS had eight students that qualified in the regional competition and four of them grabbed major awards in different events.

The team of Myka Villegas and Deirdre Rosete won first place in Duo Interpretation. They will represent CNMI in the 2015 National Tournament to be held in Dallas, Texas, on June 16-19, 2015.

Maverick Irang won third place in Story Telling. Myka Villegas won second place in Original Oratory, while Christian Aldan won third place. Deirdre Rosete also won fourth place in Original Oratory and third in Poetry.

Also, Villegas and Rosete won first place in Duet Acting in the Junior International Thespian Society. They will represent the CNMI at the JITS Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, on the last week of June 2015.

The administration, faculty, and staff of NMIS wish to congratulate all the participants, parents, and their coach, Kathy Barja, for a job well done in this prestigious event.
