More than 60 families gathered at the Oleai Sports Complex last Saturday to participate in the Northern Marianas International School’s 4th Annual Sportsfest and Family Fun Day.
NMIS’ weeklong event was held to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among the students and foster good relationship with the parents, faculty, and the school’s staff.
Some of the indoor and outdoor games were held at the school grounds. The NMIS faculty members facilitated the activities, which included chess, dodgeball, and basketball.
Banner raising, track and field relay—25 meters, 50m, 100m, 150m, and 200m runs, tug-of-war, sack race, and cheerleading competition were all held at the Oleai track oval and the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Three teams—Blue Jays, Red Phoenix, and Green Mantis—competed for the top honors. All family members, siblings, cousins where grouped together in one team.
Early Head Start students as young as 2 years old joined some of the events, while parents ran in the relay events, teaming up with teachers and students at the track. They also competed in the tug-of-war and sack race held at the Ada Gym.
The cheerdance capped the sportsfest, showcasing the students’ dancing skills as well as their team spirit.
Team Red Phoenix emerged as the overall champion, while the Green Mantis and the Blue Jays finished second and third, respectively. The Blue Jays topped the cheerdance event.
NMIS would like to extend their gratitude to Northern Marianas Sports Association staff Elias Rangamar and the Oleai Sports Complex, Marianas Business Plaza, 360 Revolving Restaurant, Island Best Choice, and PSS Early Head Start for making the event a success. The school would also like to thank its students, parents, faculty, staff, management, and events sponsors. (PR)
