NMIFA to join Liberation Day parade
Northern Mariana Islands Football Association is urging the different soccer clubs on island to join the Liberation Day Parade next weekend.
“It has been a tradition for NMIFA to join the annual 4th of July parade. This is a FIFA Women’s World Cup Year and competitions are still ongoing on July 4. Thus, this is an opportunity to use the event as the theme for our participation, and further promote the sport of football in the CNMI,” NMIFA general secretary Ross Zapanta said in an email sent to NMIFA members.
NMIFA, which was formed in 2005, joined the Liberation Day Parade for the first time in 2006 with participants wearing the colors of the countries that competed in the 18th FIFA World Cup, which Germany hosted from June 9 to July 9, and alternately hoisting a replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy. Other players who were in the parade wore their club uniforms, while NMIFA officials marched behind a large football.
Clubs joining this year’s parade are requested to be in complete uniform and march under their respective banners.
“It will be an opportunity for each club to present their members/players to the community. To reflect a good image for our association, we request that all participating clubs carry their banners and each club require marching members to be in full uniform with matching jerseys, shorts, and socks. Please also remind parents and supporters who would like to join the parade to not line up with the players, but to form a separate group at the tail-end of the NMIFA marching unit,” Zapanta added.
NMIFA is also urging members of the referee committee to form a marching group for the parade and be in complete uniforms.
Besides participating in the parade, NMIFA and the various clubs’ players are also expected to demonstrate football drills at every stop of the festivities.
