The Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation successfully held its first fundraiser, thanks to the event’s sponsors, participants, and volunteers.
The NMIBF held the Michelob Ultra 4-Mile Run For Taste and Pokka 4-Mile Sunset Run last Saturday with 60 runners signing up for the event, which was sponsored by Michelob Ultra, Pokka, the Marianas Visitors Authority, Northern Marianas Athletics, and Latte Built.
“We couldn’t have done it without the support of our business and sports communities and our friends from the MVA. Special thank you also goes out to IT&E, Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, Run Saipan, Robin Sapong, and Saipan International School, members of our NMI National Team Program, and of course all the runners that took part in the race,” NMIBF president James Lee said.
IT&E and NMIFA sponsored runners for both races, while Run Saipan also had its members joining the event. Robin Sapong was in charge of the timing and assisted NMIBF in the online registration process, while SIS through its headmaster Ron Snyder, provided the start/finish line arch at the Garapan Fishing Base. Players on the NMI National Team Program, on the other hand, manned the turnaround and water station. Michelob Ultra, Pokka, MVA, NMA, and Latte Built, meanwhile, provided prizes to the Top 3 winners in the men’s and women’s divisions of each race.
Sylvina Simram was among the players who volunteered for the race and thanked the runners and event sponsors for backing up NMIBF’s first fundraiser for the national team program.
“We are grateful for their assistance and look forward for their support in future fundraisers as we work together on having the means to make it to Marshall Islands next year and represent the CNMI to the Micronesian Games,” Simram said.
Shuji Kuroda and Lily Muldoon topped the Michelob Ultra 4-Mile Run For Taste after clocking in at 24:05 and 27:44, respectively. In the Pokka 4-Mile Sunset Run, Dev Bachani recorded 27:04 to finish first in the men’s, while Tiana Cabrera ruled the women’s field with a time of 30:23. (PR)
