The board of directors of the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. adopted yesterday a travel policy that would allow agency staff to follow the federal government travel and per diem compensation rates and guidelines.

During its meeting yesterday, the board unanimously voted to amend Subsection 3.07 of the NMHC Personnel Manual.

Present at the meeting were board chair Marcie M. Tomokane, members Edwin P. Aldan, Pedro I. Itibus, Edward C. Sablan, and Edwin M. Hofschneider.

The board, through Tomokane, submitted in July the proposed amendment for Subsection 3.07 B, E, and F, which originally required NMHC employees traveling on official business to receive travel and per diem compensation at the rate and guidelines established by the local government.

The law requires the NMHC board to solicit comments about the proposed amendment published in the Commonwealth Register for 30 days.

“After 30 days, the administration has not received any comments against the amendment,” legal counsel Vicente “Ben” Salas said during the meeting.

Salas noted that the new travel policy will once again be published “indicating that the board has adopted the amendments.”

The adopted travel policy will be effective beginning Monday, Nov. 7.
