NMHC to purge non-active applicants for housing units
The Northern Marianas Housing Corp. is thinking of purging non-active applicants from their wait-list for housing units in Mihaville and Koblerville.
Bryan Bocago, NMHC acting manager for program and housing division, said that, as of December 2014, about 427 people on Saipan are on the wait-list for two-bedroom units at Koblerville and Mihaville.
“We’re going to implement these purging activities and go over and review applications. If the applicant is on island or off island but are not active, we will remove them from the Section 8 housing waiting list,” Bocago said.
So far, a total of 501 are on the wait-list for “new construction” areas. Project sites include Koblerville and Mihaville on Saipan. Section 8 housing units on Tinian and Rota have a total of seven on their wait-list.
As of December 2014, according to Bocago’s report, 46 units in Mihaville are occupied while two are vacant. In Koblerville, there are 34 occupied units and no vacant ones. On Tinian all 20 units are occupied. On Rota, 10 units are occupied while six are vacant.
Board member Ignacio Perez agreed that they should purge some of those that are on the wait-list but are no longer active.
“It is critical that we do these because of the available units that we have and the number is too big,” Perez said.
