NMHC finalizing Garapan Annex RFP

The Northern Marianas Housing Corp. is now in the process of finalizing a request for proposal for the Garapan Annex, according to NMHC deputy corporate director Jeannie Mafnas.
“We are currently in the process of finalizing the RFP,” Mafnas confirmed yesterday through email.

She said that NMHC is preparing for the board of directors meeting on Feb. 4. From there they will find out whether things are in place to proceed with the RFP.

This comes almost three years after the decision to establish the Garapan Annex was first tabled.

The Garapan Annex is an area located across the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. and Garapan Elementary School.

NMHC owns the 40,000 square-meter lot and it contains 45 units that have not been used for years. Several investors have expressed interest in developing the property.

The RFP for the Garapan Annex was first issued in December 2012 but this was later cancelled due to unspecified legal issues.

Back then, Mariana Islands Housing Authority or MIHA, now NMHC, allowed NMHC to lease the area for commercial development.
