The national award-winning environmental group, through school visits and activities, continues its efforts in promoting sustainable tourism.
According to NMC professor Dr. Alfredo Torres, officers and students have been visiting schools around the CNMI as a part its efforts to recruit students to major in environmental and natural resource sciences.
The group’s last visit to the southern island was two year’s ago.
One Rota student who expressed interest in the program said, “I am happy that they came over to talk about the opportunity dealing with the environment.”
Torres said the goal of the recruitment is not solely to increase student numbers but to expand research and educational outreach.
The student officers explained the internships, lab experiments, and benefits of the program to the Rota youth.
NRM public relations officer Julius Reyes said the group is looking for students who share a passion for the environment.
“If they feel like they want to make a difference then they should enroll. This provides a lot of real life experiences and quality education,” he added.
Currently, the program is expected to graduate 26 students next year and has close to 100 students studying Natural Resource Management since its formation in 2010.
