ASAN, Guam—Sailors from the Navy Munitions Command East Asia Division Unit Guam joined local community members in cleanup efforts at an elementary school on Aug. 9.

The Guam Department of Education recently reached out to the community seeking volunteers to help prepare campuses for the first day of classes in less than two weeks. NMCEAD Unit Guam contacted Harry S. Truman Elementary in Santa Rita to see how they could help.

Principal Christine Terlaje thanked NMCEAD Unit Guam for answering the call for volunteers and said she looks forward to working with the sailors not only last weekend, but throughout the school year.

“It is awesome seeing everyone work together for a common goal, which is our students,” Terlaje said. “Collaboration and a unified front communicates effectiveness.”

NMCEAD Unit Guam is the Navy’s largest and most capable overseas mine shop. NMCEAD Unit Guam stores, maintains, assembles, and delivers underwater mines in response to tasking from Unified Theater Commanders. NMCEAD Unit Guam directly supports Commander 7th Fleet aircraft and submarines; however, the primary mine delivery platforms that NMCEAD Unit Guam supports are Air Force strategic bombers flying missions out of Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.
