Northern Marianas College’s Nursing Program is offering a comprehensive 10-week Nursing Assistant Program this summer, providing students with the training and certification needed to begin their careers as Certified Nursing Assistants. With a focus on practical skills and real-world experience, this program is designed for anyone interested in working in the healthcare industry and helping others in need.

The program will be held from May 31 to Aug. 4, and will prepare entry-level nursing assistants to provide basic nursing care to the elderly, ill, and persons with disabilities in a variety of settings such as long-term care, hospitals, clinics, schools, and home health.

The Nursing Assistant Program is open to all students and individuals interested in starting a career as a nursing assistant. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Competency Examination administered by the NMI Board of Nursing. Passing the NNAAP exam will enable participants to become licensed as a Certified Nursing Assistant, be placed on the NMI Board of Nursing Registry for nursing assistants, and practice as a CNA in the CNMI, U.S. territories or U.S. mainland.

Interested individuals can attend an info session on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 5pm to 7pm at the NMC Saipan Campus in Room V-109 to learn more about the Nursing Assistant Program, including admission guidelines, applicable fees, and available financial assistance. Attendees of the info session will also have their NMC admissions application and placement test fees waived, which is a savings of $75.

To apply for the Nursing Assistant Program, interested applicants must visit the NMC website at www.marianas.edu/admissions and submit an application with the required documents such as official high school or equivalent transcript, health evaluation form, valid photo identification, and a copy of their diploma. High school students who are interested must meet the criteria of NMC’s Early Admissions Program to enroll, which includes an official transcript, health evaluation, valid photo identification, and a GPA of 3.0 or a recommendation letter from a school counselor.

All applicants must meet the English placement of EN095 (Integrated Reading and Writing II) and Math placement of MA091 (Beginning Algebra). Students who need to take the placement tests must contact Maia Pangelinan at the NMC Testing Center at 670-237-6774 to schedule their placement tests before March 31, 2023.

For more information on tuition and other applicable fees, interested individuals can visit www.marianas.edu/nursing and refer to Nursing Assistant Program Admissions Guidelines and Cost Breakdown. They can also contact Andrew Mendiola at (670) 237-6744 or email at andrew.mendiola@marianas.edu for assistance.

NMC would like to extend its gratitude to its major partners who continue to support this program and its students each year, including CNMI Area Health Education Center, CNMI Department of Labor Workforce Investment Agency, Tinian Mayor’s Office, Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation, and NMI Board of Nursing.

Registration for the course opens on March 31, 2023, via NMC’s ProaPortal. Seating is limited to 20 students and is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply early to secure their seat in the Nursing Assistant Program. (NMC)
