NMC students vie for leadership positions

A total of 18 students from the Northern Marianas College have announced their intent to pursue student government positions as officers of the Associated Students of NMC or ASNMC. The student elections will be held on Sept. 21 and 22 – 2020.

ASNMC is a student-driven governance body at the college. Its executive cabinet is composed of students who are elected by the student body and serve a one-year term in office.  The available positions are president – vice president – secretary – treasurer – and three senators.

The candidates for this year’s student leadership elections are:

PRESIDENT:
• Aira Joy Velasco – Nursing major
• Jamerie E. Paras – Business Management and Accounting major
• Maia Pangelinan – Education major

VICE PRESIDENT
• Eloise Lopez – Education major
• Jaiden Pia-Mae M. Santos – Business Management major
• Jamerie E. Paras – Business Management and Accounting major
• Victoria Matsunaga – Education major

SECRETARY
• Ainah Chargualaf – Liberal Arts major
• Aira Joy Velasco – Nursing major
• Eloise Lopez – Education major
• Hilaria Aldan – Education and Social Work major
• Jaiden Pia-Mae M. Santos – Business Management major

TREASURER
• Alyssa Attao – Education major
• Duncan Laxa – Business Management major
• John Chloel Delos Reyes – Business Management major
• Eloise Lopez – Education major
• Kelly Malisga – Business Management major

SENATOR
• Alyssa Attao – Education major
• Victoria Bellas – Business and Liberal Arts major
• Angela Bernal – Education major
• Reaven Cruz – Liberal Arts
• Duncan Laxa – Business Management major
• Eloise Lopez – Education major
• Nemerlyn Magat – Business Management and Business Administration major
• Victoria Matsunaga – Education major
• Joelin Mettao – Education major
• Leila Nawaz – Education major

“It is great to see that more and more students are wanting to become a part of NMC’s governance process,” NMC interim president Frankie Eliptico said. “Students leaders play an important role in advocating for students and making sure their voices are heard in major decision making processes.”
All voting will be held online through Google Forms.

“I look forward to working with the students who are elected in this year’s elections,” said NMC Student Leadership coordinator Alexis Cabrera. “I wish all the candidates the best of luck next week.”
