NMC Rota, Tinian directors named
- Maria Aguon
- Martin Mendiola
Northern Marianas College president Dr. Carmen Fernandez announced yesterday the appointments of Maria Aguon and Martin Mendiola as executive directors who will head the operations of the institution’s centers on Tinian and Rota, respectively.
“Maria and Martin’s new roles on Tinian and Rota are part of our ongoing efforts to expand the college’s operations on these islands and to ensure that local workforce and educational needs are being addressed comprehensively,” said Fernandez.
Prior to her new role, Aguon served as the NMC Project Proa director and also program coordinator of the Tinian campus instructional site. In her new role, she will oversee activities including student services on Tinian, training activities that include those provided through distance learning, and outreach activities on Tinian.
She will also be leading efforts to promote the Prior Learning Assessment Program, which awards college credit for verifiable knowledge gained from employment training programs, military service, and independent study.
“I am very much looking forward to engaging the community of the Tinian in this new capacity,” said Aguon.
Mendiola is no stranger to NMC. He has worked as NMC Rota’s campus administrator until he left in 2010 to work as the Rota port manager for the Commonwealth Ports Authority. In his new role, he will oversee activities on Rota that aim to advance the mission of the college in making quality education and training available and accessible to the people of Rota.
“We will be working hard to make the campus on Rota the central hub of activity for the Rota community,” said Mendiola, who will start his new post at NMC on Dec. 19, 2016.
“I am confident that Maria and Martin’s leadership on Tinian and Rota will result in continued growth and expansion as we help residents meet their educational goals,” added Fernandez. (NMC)
