The Northern Marianas College has implemented extensive cost-containment measures due to the current financial crisis facing the CNMI.

NMC Dr. president Galvin Deleon Guerrero issued a presidential directive last Thursday implementing the extensive cost-containment measures for the college.

“Economic uncertainties and a deepening financial crisis are profoundly impacting the lives of people and organizations across the CNMI. The Commonwealth is bracing for fiscal storms as federal and local funds run short. Given this financial forecast, it is critical that we exercise fiscal responsibility and vigilance in how we conduct our business and how we ultimately fulfill our college’s new mission. We will take a proactive approach to take care of our people, our community, and our resources,” said Deleon Guerrero.

As part of its cost cutting measures, NMC has suspended the release of third and fourth quarter allocations for fiscal year 2023 Operations Budget for College departments and programs.

In addition, NMC’s contractual obligations like security, cleaning, maintenance, information technology, and other payments will be on a case-to-case basis and subject to review and approval.

Also, all non-federally funded travel has been restricted for NMC personnel and federally funded travel will be on a case-to-case basis.

In addition to all of these, comprehensive energy conservations efforts to reduce utilities consumption on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota campuses are now in effect.
