NMC offers workforce development courses
The Northern Marianas College is inviting community members to register for its Workforce Development Training classes that are being offered as part of the Workforce Development and Apprenticeship Program aimed at assisting residents learn or sharpen their workplace knowledge and skills.
The courses that NMC is offering are in Computer Literacy: Introduction to Computers, Keyboarding, Fundamentals of the Internet and Email Usage, Introduction to Word Processing Applications, Introduction to Spreadsheet Applications, and Creating Effective Digital Presentations.
The college is also offering courses in Customer Service: Workplace Culture and Ethics, Workforce Ready: Personal & Leadership Skills, Communication in the Workplace, and Time and Stress Management.
“These courses are designed to help U.S. citizens, and residents transition into meaningful and sustainable careers or to help those who are already employed to acquire new skills or enhance existing ones,” said David Attao, dean of Administration and Resource Development at NMC. “We are encouraging anyone who is looking for a job or who is looking to enhance their knowledge and skills to register as soon as possible since space is limited.”
Registration for the classes begins on March 21, 2014 and will continue until March 27, 2014. Anyone who is interested in registering can visit the Community Development Institute) Office in NMC’s Building P or they can contact Eileen Babauta at eileen.babauta@marianas.edu or 237-6764.
“The courses are made possible by CW fees at no charge to participants and will be taught by highly experienced and knowledgeable instructors,” Attao added. “If you know anyone who can benefit from this training, please tell them about it, and be sure to join us.”
The first class will begin on March 31, 2014 and other classes will continue on through May 31, 2014. According to Attao, the classes are scheduled at different times to meet the needs of participants. Participants can select a time that fits their schedule: 9am to 11am; 2pm to 4pm; or 5pm to 7pm. However classes may be cancelled to fit course enrollment needs.
All classes will be held at various classrooms and computer labs at NMC’s As Terlaje Campus. Courses for Tinian and Rota will be announced on a later date.
The Workforce Development Training is provided as part of NMC’s workforce development initiative focusing on providing participants Lead into Future Experiences (LIFE), which is funded by federal funds made possible by CNMI appropriations to NMC for the U.S. Apprenticeship Program (collected from federal funds for contract worker fees).
