NMC lifts austerity
The Northern Marianas College officially lifted the austerity measures imposed on the college, including salary deductions and biweekly work hour cuts, effective Dec. 3.
According to interim NMC president Frankie Eliptico, the austerity measures implemented since early this year were cautiously lifted, as the Department of Finance continues to work on transferring allocated funding for the college for fiscal year 2019.
In the last two weeks, NMC has received approximately $2 million from the Department of Finance in fiscal year 2019 funding, Eliptico said.
“Since Nov. 26, the Department of Finance transferred approximately $1.9 million to Northern Marianas College. This includes all the pending amounts for fiscal year 2019,” he said.
Eliptico said he has also received information that NMC will be receiving another $500,000 from DOF today as allocated by the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation.
NMC continues to work with the Department of Finance to work out a regular schedule for the transfer of fiscal year 2020 allocations.
“We would like to thank Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Secretary of Finance David Atalig for their help in making the transfers of funds and in prioritizing the allocations these past two weeks,” Eliptico said. (Kimberly A. Bautista)
