NMC hosts info session for government, private sector employees
The Northern Marianas College is inviting all government and private sector employees to a free information session on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at the college’s As Terlaje campus from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in Room D-1.
Attendees of this info session will receive information geared toward employees in the workforce who are interested in advancing their professional careers. The info session will cover the benefits of a college degree, NMC’s accreditation status, the admissions process, and the benefits of starting at the Northern Marianas College. In addition, NMC will be discussing a new spring 2012 semester schedule, which includes more weekend and night classes in order to accommodate working individuals who are not able to attend classes during the workweek.
Financial aid options will also be discussed. For instance, the college offers a 50-percent discount on tuition for government employees who are ineligible to receive other scholarships.
Based on a study conducted by the US Census Bureau in 2004, people who have obtained at least an associate degree make close to $10,000 more per annum than those who have only completed their high school education. That amount nearly doubles for a bachelor’s degree and every other degree that comes after that.
Faculty, staff, and students from the different degree and certificate programs at NMC, as well as Student Services representatives from counseling, financial aid, and admissions will be on hand to answer questions. Other current students will also be speaking about their experiences at NMC.
NMC offers several degree and certificate programs, including a bachelor of science degree in education (emphasis on elementary education, early childhood education, special education, or rehabilitation and human services), associate degrees in business, business administration (emphasis on accounting, business management, or computer applications), liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and hospitality management. Moreover, it offers short-term certificate programs in different vocational, academic, and professional areas.
Those who attend the information session will also qualify to have their application fee and their placement test fees waived for the upcoming spring 2012 semester. This represents a savings of about $50. Registration for the spring 2012 semester will begin on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012.
